No more vague talk about the future, but a law you already need to comply with today. If you fail to do so, you could face a <strong>fine of up to \u20ac15 million or three percent of your global turnover<\/strong>. Time to take a closer look at what this actually means for your organisation.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-heading stk-block-heading stk-block-heading--v2 stk-block stk-dc182b5\" id=\"a-short-timeline\" data-block-id=\"dc182b5\"><style>.stk-dc182b5 {margin-bottom:10px !important;}<\/style><h2 class=\"stk-block-heading__text\">A short timeline<\/h2><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-b3f3020\" data-block-id=\"b3f3020\"><style>.stk-b3f3020 {margin-bottom:50px !important;}<\/style><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">The AI Act as it has now entered into force is not actually new. The law already entered into force on 1 August 2024, but has been rolled out in phases ever since. First came the bans on certain AI practices, followed by the rules on <strong>AI literacy<\/strong> within organisations. Since 2 August 2026, the next and much broader wave has taken effect. Not only the <strong>transparency rules under Article 50<\/strong>, but also effective enforcement at national and European level now starts. Companies can therefore actually be inspected and fined from now on. The full rollout of the law continues until 2 August 2028, so this is not the end point. It is, however, the moment when the law starts to have real teeth.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-heading stk-block-heading stk-block-heading--v2 stk-block stk-89aaccd\" id=\"what-has-actually-changed\" data-block-id=\"89aaccd\"><style>.stk-89aaccd {margin-bottom:10px !important;}<\/style><h2 class=\"stk-block-heading__text\">What has actually changed<\/h2><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-ef10946\" data-block-id=\"ef10946\"><style>.stk-ef10946 {margin-bottom:32px !important;}<\/style><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">Article 50 of the AI Act revolves around one principle. <strong>People need to know when they are dealing with AI.<\/strong> In practice, this means three things:<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-24c0444\" data-block-id=\"24c0444\"><style>.stk-24c0444 {margin-bottom:32px !important;}<\/style><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\"><strong>Use a chatbot? <\/strong>Then you must make it clear <strong>from the first interaction<\/strong> that the user is talking to AI, not a person.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-5408ee5\" data-block-id=\"5408ee5\"><style>.stk-5408ee5 {margin-bottom:32px !important;}<\/style><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\"><strong>Create realistic AI content, images, audio or video that could be mistaken for real content?<\/strong> It must be <strong>visibly or audibly labelled as artificial<\/strong>. Think of an AI generated product image for a campaign, a synthetic voice in a voice over, or an AI avatar in an advertising video. Video and audio in particular are the hardest content types to label and track consistently, so that is where you face the greatest risk.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-3823e67\" data-block-id=\"3823e67\"><style>.stk-3823e67 {margin-bottom:32px !important;}<\/style><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\"><strong>Publish AI generated text on a matter of public interest?<\/strong> Then a <strong>label is required<\/strong>, unless a human performs the final editorial review and takes final responsibility. That is also your easiest way around the labelling requirement.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-1adc4a8\" data-block-id=\"1adc4a8\"><style>.stk-1adc4a8 {margin-bottom:50px !important;}<\/style><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\"><strong>The rules apply to companies, public authorities, self employed professionals and professional influencers. <strong>Purely private use is excluded.<\/strong><\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-heading stk-block-heading stk-block-heading--v2 stk-block stk-528b400\" id=\"how-much-does-such-a-label-actually-need-to-say\" data-block-id=\"528b400\"><h2 class=\"stk-block-heading__text\">How much does such a label actually need to say?<\/h2><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-21b84f2\" data-block-id=\"21b84f2\"><style>.stk-21b84f2 {margin-bottom:32px !important;}<\/style><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">Legally, the key point is this: it must be <strong>clear and unambiguous<\/strong> to an average, attentive user, and this must be the case <strong>from the first interaction<\/strong>. A tiny label in the corner of an image or a vague mention in the terms and conditions is not enough. But a detailed description of exactly what was edited or generated is <strong>not legally required<\/strong>. A simple label such as <strong>\u2018Edited with AI\u2019<\/strong> can therefore be sufficient, as long as it is clearly visible and unambiguous.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-94f85b4\" data-block-id=\"94f85b4\"><style>.stk-94f85b4 {margin-bottom:50px !important;}<\/style><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">One nuance: in June 2026, the European Commission published its <strong>Code of Practice on Transparency of AI generated Content<\/strong>. It is voluntary, but serves as a <strong>practical benchmark<\/strong> and distinguishes between content that was <strong>fully generated by AI<\/strong> and content that was <strong>AI assisted<\/strong>. Each has its own recommended label. This is something to take into account now when setting up a <strong>labelling system<\/strong>.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-heading stk-block-heading stk-block-heading--v2 stk-block stk-8c32c9a\" id=\"why-this-cant-be-left-on-the-shelf\" data-block-id=\"8c32c9a\"><style>.stk-8c32c9a {margin-bottom:10px !important;}<\/style><h2 class=\"stk-block-heading__text\">Why this can&#8217;t be left on the shelf<\/h2><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-9323f79\" data-block-id=\"9323f79\"><style>.stk-9323f79 {margin-bottom:50px !important;}<\/style><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">A fair question, because if nobody is watching, a law can feel optional. In practice, enforcement takes place through <strong>national supervisory authorities<\/strong> in each member state, supported by European coordination for cross border cases. The problem in Belgium is that this national supervisory authority has not yet been appointed. That does not mean there will be no enforcement. It simply means the rules may become clear faster than the authorities responsible for enforcing them. For your organisation, this changes little. <strong>The obligation applies today<\/strong>, regardless of whether the supervisory authority is already operating at full capacity.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-heading stk-block-heading stk-block-heading--v2 stk-block stk-925091c\" id=\"5-concrete-steps-you-can-take\" data-block-id=\"925091c\"><style>.stk-925091c {margin-bottom:10px !important;}<\/style><h2 class=\"stk-block-heading__text\">5 concrete steps you can take<\/h2><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-6de0589\" data-block-id=\"6de0589\"><style>.stk-6de0589 {margin-bottom:32px !important;}<\/style><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\"><strong>Map where AI is being used.<\/strong><br>Chatbots, content generation, image editing, automated copy. Create a list for each team. Not just what marketing uses, but also what sales, HR or customer service teams may already be using on the side.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-1356741\" data-block-id=\"1356741\"><style>.stk-1356741 {margin-bottom:32px !important;}<\/style><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\"><strong>Check your output.<\/strong><br>Which content that customers or visitors see has been created with the help of AI or <strong>generated by AI<\/strong>? That content needs a label. Think blog articles, social posts, generated product images and videos with synthetic voices.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-50a07b2\" data-block-id=\"50a07b2\"><style>.stk-50a07b2 {margin-bottom:32px !important;}<\/style><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\"><strong>Put final editorial review in place.<\/strong><br><strong>Human oversight<\/strong> of AI generated text on matters of public interest can save you from having to add a label. Make sure that review actually happens, not just on paper. Who reads it, who approves it, and where is that documented?<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-54072cf\" data-block-id=\"54072cf\"><style>.stk-54072cf {margin-bottom:32px !important;}<\/style><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\"><strong>Build governance into your systems, not on top of them.<\/strong><br>A standalone policy document that nobody reads solves nothing. <strong>AI governance works when it becomes part of how your systems are built<\/strong>, rather than an extra step that everyone skips when a deadline is approaching.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-9ef9a5c\" data-block-id=\"9ef9a5c\"><style>.stk-9ef9a5c {margin-bottom:50px !important;}<\/style><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\"><strong>Make sure you know what is in your content.<\/strong><br>And this is often where things get difficult. Before you can label something, you need to know it exists. In practice, many organisations do not have a complete overview of <strong>which content is AI generated, where it is stored and who uses it<\/strong>. Assets disappear into folders, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/catenacompany.be\/en\/technologies\/dam\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"3687\">DAM systems <\/a><\/strong>or old campaigns, without anyone knowing what they contain or how they were created.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-heading stk-block-heading stk-block-heading--v2 stk-block stk-8f79956\" id=\"who-actually-checks-this\" data-block-id=\"8f79956\"><style>.stk-8f79956 {margin-bottom:10px !important;}<\/style><h2 class=\"stk-block-heading__text\">Who actually checks this?<\/h2><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-89ca9e2\" data-block-id=\"89ca9e2\"><style>.stk-89ca9e2 {margin-bottom:50px !important;}<\/style><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">A fair question, because if nobody is watching, a law can feel optional. Companies are being asked to be transparent about AI content, while those same companies often do not even have a <strong>clear view of their own content<\/strong>. Not because they are careless, but because traditional systems simply were not built for this. Tags do not capture what is actually inside a file. Videos and audio often get one label for the entire file. Nobody knows three clicks further which part was AI generated and which part was not. You can hardly comply with a <strong>labelling requirement for content you cannot find yourself<\/strong>.It&#8217;s hard to comply with a labeling obligation for content you can&#8217;t even find.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-heading stk-block-heading stk-block-heading--v2 stk-block stk-0ca32a9\" id=\"compliance-starts-with-visibility\" data-block-id=\"0ca32a9\"><style>.stk-0ca32a9 {margin-bottom:10px !important;}<\/style><h2 class=\"stk-block-heading__text\">Compliance starts with visibility<\/h2><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-a8ee10a\" data-block-id=\"a8ee10a\"><style>.stk-a8ee10a {margin-bottom:32px !important;}<\/style><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">This is where your biggest exercise lies.
