WeTransfer has become a habitual tool for many teams. It’s a quick way to send something without logging in or taking any detours.
We all use it, both privately and professionally. But after the recent update to their Terms of Service — and the commotion that followed — it’s time to ask ourselves: do we still want to use such a tool in a professional environment?
Because no matter how convenient it may seem, doubts creep in as soon as you read the details:
It may feel like a small risk. But for brands that work professionally with sensitive content, trust in the tools you share with is not a nice-to-have — it’s crucial.
In its August 2025 update, WeTransfer introduced a clause (§6.3) that automatically granted users a perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, transferable, sublicensable licence.
Among other things, this gave WeTransfer the right to:
After strong public criticism, WeTransfer reversed this passage:
Although the new clause is less far-reaching, the wording remains vague. What does “improvement of the service” mean in concrete terms?
This creates uncertainty, especially for creative brands that work under NDAs or with intellectually valuable content. Users remained uncertain: Can I trust this licence blindly?
Bynder Express is designed as a functionality within your DAM:
| WeTransfer | Bynder Express | |
| License Terms | Previously vague, initial AI licence potential | No questions about licensing; everything within the Bynder environment |
| Ownership & control | You retain copyright, but the licence is broadly formulated | Full control within your DAM, no external claims |
| Security | Basic encryption | Enterprise-grade encryption, permissions and tracking |
| Ease of use | External platform, separate login | Directly available within your DAM, no additional tools required |
| Traceability | No admin overview | Transfer history gives you an overview |
Sharing files securely is important. But it’s only a fraction of what a DAM can do for you.
