Photoshop is widely known as a photo editing program, but did you know it can be used for much more? Here’s a list of valuable features and uses.
Social media posts
A computer image consists of pixels, and since Photoshop works with pixels, it’s ideal for designing social media posts. By creating visuals in the correct format, you preserve their quality. However, enlarging them afterwards may reduce clarity. If you take this into account, maintaining a cohesive social media feed is effortless, and customising your designs is a breeze. Need the same post in multiple dimensions? In that case, you should use artboards.
Formatting images for your website
Photoshop is the go-to tool for creating eye-catching online visuals, making it perfect for enhancing your website’s appearance. Experiment with unique colour effects, add creative elements – the possibilities are endless. Or you could even animate your visuals. Check out the additional section later in this blog.
Creating flyers and posters
Although Photoshop was not developed to design entire magazines (InDesign is better suited for that), it does not mean you cannot use the programme during their production. Photoshop is in fact interesting for editing the images of flyers and posters. Once your image is edited, you can place it in InDesign to finalise your flyer or poster. By working with a linked file, any changes made in Photoshop are instantly updated in your InDesign document by clicking the Links button. This saves you from having to repeatedly export and reinsert your file.
Photoshop’s extensive features make it indispensable, and the creative multimedia experts at Catena Company are ready to guide you.
GIFS
Animating images in Photoshop is surprisingly simple. Start by activating the timeline in your workspace. Click Window in the top ribbon and select Timeline. Once activated, the timeline will appear at the bottom of your workspace.
Before you begin animating, ensure all the layers you want to animate are prepared in your working file. After that, you just need to export it to the timeline. Next, click the Create Video Timeline button in the timeline panel. From here, you can start working with a simplified version of After Effects to bring your animation to life. By working with keyframes, you can easily produce an impressive GIF. Work with different positions, visibility and styles.
Mock-ups
Photoshop is also incredibly useful for creating mock-ups. A mock-up provides a practical way to present a realistic preview of your work. Will your poster catch enough attention on the street? How will your design look on a tote bag? Or what will that brochure look like when all the elements are arranged side by side? Mock-ups are especially valuable for visualizing packaging. With the right design and an equally well-made mock-up, you’re just a few clicks away from a stunning visual.
