Discover the limitless possibilities of AI in Photoshop

Gepubliceerd op

How often do you find yourself in need of an image for your marketing campaign, only to realise it’s the wrong size or that your subject is cropped? With Photoshop’s generative features, you can fix this in no time.

Generative expand

Start by selecting the crop tool and dragging it beyond the original frame of the image to the desired size. Next, fill the new space with generated content, using a text prompt if desired. Click “Generate” in the toolbar, and Photoshop will seamlessly fill the expanded space with content that blends perfectly with the rest of the image.

If you use a prompt, the expansion will feature the content you described. Photoshop generates three versions for you to choose from – pick your favourite, and that’s it! You’ve got a new layer filled with generated content. This feature is a huge time-saver, enabling you to resize images creatively while maintaining quality. With just one basic image, you can create countless variations in a fraction of the time.

Generative fill

Generative fill in Photoshop is simply amazing! With just a few clicks, you can effortlessly add, edit, or delete image elements. Thanks to the AI behind it – powered by Adobe Sensei, which has been Adobe’s trusted engine for years – everything happens seamlessly. Tasks like cutting, editing, and removing elements are completed in a fraction of the time. Generative fill, driven by machine learning, not only generates parts of images but can also create entire montages. It analyses every pixel of your image, adjusting lighting, perspective, colours, and shadows to produce stunningly realistic results.

And there’s no need to worry – it’s completely non-destructive. You can always revert to your original image, as everything is neatly layered, so you can override everything you want. This means you retain full control and can further refine your designs with other Photoshop features, like filters and blends.

When it comes to resizing, generative expand is, in my experience, a better choice than fill. However, it’s worth noting that, as of now, the Photoshop AI-generated fill feature is only available in the Photoshop beta.

Where can you get Photoshop Beta?

To try out these generative tools, you’ll need to use the Photoshop beta for now. The full launch is expected at Adobe Max in about two months. To get started, you’ll need an Adobe Creative Cloud account (subscription), unless you want to experiment via Adobe’s Firefly (the web app). The subscription cost varies depending on the tools you want, though you can also opt for Photoshop as a standalone product. Be sure to get in touch if you would like a quote for a licence.

Want to test out Photoshop’s capabilities before buying anything? No problem! Install the 7-day free trial, so you can decide later whether you want to continue using it. Once you have signed up, click the download button to install Photoshop. This will install the Creative Cloud dashboard on your computer. Open the Creative Cloud dashboard and go to the ‘Apps’ tab. There, you will find the ‘Beta Apps’ tab on the left-hand side. Search for Photoshop (Beta) to install the application.
