CM builds new website with DAM integration

CM faced several challenges. On the one hand, they had the migration to the new CMS system, and on the other, this new system had to be able to communicate smoothly with a new DAM. Because the larger the organization, the more difficult it is to maintain an overview of your assets. Especially when you...

Health fund CM is currently work to migrate its current websites to a new Content Management System with a corresponding Digital Asset Management solution. After a lengthy evaluation process of considering references, technical qualities and price, Catena Company was identified as the best DAM partner.

CM faced numerous challenges. There was the migration to the new CMS system, plus the need for the new system to communicate flawlessly with a new DAM. Where you have a larger organisation, you have a harder time maintaining oversight of your assets, particularly when you start to cross language borders. Before the project, CM did not have a DAM system.

Working step by step towards a user-friendly platform

The scope of the project warranted a structured approach. Holding weekly meetings, CM worked through the steps needed to establish its DAM with Catena Company.

The first step was to establish the taxonomy so that things could be located quickly. Which metadata were needed, which filters were needed, which derivatives needed to be created automatically… After a test period of around a month, the taxonomy was fully established and the first assets could be uploaded.

But that’s not where establishing a new DAM system ends. Not only do the look and feel need to match CM’s corporate identity, but the system needs to be as user friendly as possible. With this in mind, the next phase looked at images, sliders and tiles to enhance the user experience even further.

Considering the number of CM employees and the various profiles that will work with the DAM in the future, clear agreements were needed relating to user permissions. This involved dividing users into groups and profiles. Groups determine who is permitted to see what, while profiles determine who can do what. Consequently, a group comprises multiple profiles.

The final step was to implement single sign-on, allowing users to log in with their work e-mail address and password without having to have an account beforehand. Not only is this a more secure method, but it immediately assigns the default permissions to a new account. This saves administrators considerable time as they do not have to process each account separately to assign permissions.

A central solution for every language

With a link to Drupal, all imagery on the new website is retrieved from the DAM. This prevents the media folder from becoming overloaded with dated and erroneous imagery. With the predetermined permissions structure and groups, French-speaking and German-speaking counterparts, MC and CKK, cannot access CM’s imagery and vice versa.

Not only will CM soon have a brand-spanking new website, but legacy problems relating to assets have also been resolved. Thanks to their DAM system, all assets are now centralised, everything can be found quickly and sharing assets is much easier. Health fund CM can now bid farewell to WeTransfer and instead embrace DAM.
