Hydro set to work with the marketing content

Outsourcing marketing content can be incredibly expensive. That’s why it’s essential to ask yourself whether the enthusiasm and talent to take it in-house already exist within your team. Hydro did just that. By assembling a small team and providing tailored training, they successfully began creating their own 2D animation videos.

For many brand owners, marketing content is often created by external agencies. While this approach can deliver results, it also comes with significant frustrations and costs. As a brand owner, it’s important to challenge these traditional collaborations. Is outsourcing still necessary? Do we have the right talent internally to take over this task? These were the questions posed by international aluminium manufacturing company Hydro as they reevaluated their approach to content creation.

Depending on externals

Outsourcing content creation does have some drawbacks for brand owners. You have to wait longer for the final product, different schedules have to match, there are a substantial number of feedback loops, not to mention it is incredibly expensive. Given these challenges, Hydro began to consider bringing content creation in-house. Could they manage it internally? With this question in mind, Hydro turned to Catena Company for guidance. Previously, they had relied on an external agency 2D animation videos to create their 2D animation videos. However, it was now time for Hydro to take control and tackle this challenge themselves.

A training course to answer all your questions

Hydro’s HSE Coordinator, Alexy Thomas, shared that he had no prior experience in creating 2D animation videos. This feedback helped Geerte gauge the participants’ skill level and tailor the training accordingly. Once the baseline was established, the training content was adapted to suit the team’s needs. What does it take to create a 2D animation video yourself? Geerte, along with trainer Coralie, developed a personalised training proposal. The focus was on understanding how to create effective storyboards and learning to work with After Effects and Illustrator. It was an ambitious goal, especially for participants with little or no prior knowledge.

Taking the reins

With trainer Coralie’s guidance, Hydro’s team explored the full potential of creating their own 2D animation videos. This approach not only helped Hydro significantly reduce outsourcing costs but also brought valuable content creation skills in-house. The result? Animation videos that elevated Hydro’s internal and external communications to the next level.
